Technology transfer (TT) is a critical activity in the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring that product and process knowledge is effectively and consistently transferred between development, manufacturing, and commercial sites. In the Indian regulatory context, the use of structured technology transfer protocols plays a vital role in achieving and maintaining compliance with national and international regulatory requirements. This study examines the application of technology transfer protocols within Indian pharmaceutical organizations, with a particular focus on alignment with regulatory expectations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules, 1945, Schedule M (GMP), and relevant international guidelines such as WHO Technical Report Series and ICH Q8, Q9, and Q10.The study highlights how well-designed technology transfer protocols support regulatory compliance by ensuring process reproducibility, data integrity, risk mitigation, and consistent product quality throughout the product lifecycle. Key challenges identified include inadequate documentation, limited cross-functional coordination, variability in process understanding, resource constraints in small and medium-sized enterprises, and evolving regulatory expectations. The findings emphasize the importance of standardized protocols, robust quality risk management, comprehensive training, and effective communication between sending and receiving units. Overall, the study concludes that systematic implementation of technology transfer protocols strengthens regulatory compliance, enhances inspection readiness, and contributes to sustainable growth of the Indian pharmaceutical industry in both domestic and global markets.
