The growing need for effective treatments for tissue and organ damage has accelerated the development of tissue engineering and three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting as promising approaches in regenerative medicine. By combining living cells, biomaterials, and advanced fabrication techniques, these technologies have opened new possibilities for creating functional tissue constructs that closely resemble native tissues. This review highlights recent developments in biomaterials, stem cell technologies, bioinks, and bioprinting methods that have improved tissue regeneration and repair. It also discusses emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, four-dimensional (4D) bioprinting, organ-on-a-chip systems, smart biomaterials, nanotechnology, personalized medicine, and advanced bioreactors, which are driving the next generation of regenerative therapies. Furthermore, the review explores the clinical applications of bioprinting in skin, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neural, and organ tissue engineering, along with its role in disease modelling and drug discovery. Although significant progress has been made, challenges such as vascularization, large-scale manufacturing, regulatory approval, and commercialization continue to limit widespread clinical use. Continued interdisciplinary research and technological innovation are expected to overcome these barriers and support the successful translation of bioprinted therapies into routine clinical practice, ultimately advancing personalized and regenerative healthcare.
